How does an RO water purifier actually work?
Osmosis is a naturally occurring phenomenon; it refers to water moving through a semi-permeable membrane, naturally resulting in a roughly equal concentration of its ions and salts (which are dissolved in the water) on both sides of the membrane.
As the name implies, reverse osmosis inverts this process, pushing water through a semi-permeable membrane using pressure. That ends up in pure water on one side with almost all contaminants, dissolved salts, bacteria, pyrogens remaining on the other side.
