Water2 Review (Pod 2.0, Bear Grylls Filter)

It’s product review time, and this time it’s an under-sink water filter that has exploded in popularity in the last year or so.

This is our Bear Grylls Water2 Review.

FYI – the product is just called the Water2 Pod 2.0, but the company is part-owned by Bear Grylls and he’s frequently talked about how impressed he was with the filter results that he subsequently invested in the company.

Therefore, his name has become synonymous with the product.

So we stuck his name on this review title, just so people know it is the one the madcap adventurer is associated with.

Read on, then, and enjoy!

Rating the Water2 Pod 2.0

Here are the results of our analysis; what did we like and dislike about this under-sink water filter?

Bear Grylls Water2 Pod 2.0

The pros of this filter:

Impressive filtering performance resulting in safer, healthier water
We were impressed with the results for filtering performance. That’s due in no small part to the high-quality activated carbon filter in the Pod 2.0. Activated carbon is the most effective filter medium for this type of under-sink filter product (with a wide range of scientific studies to back this up). Not all activated carbon is made equally, as someone once said (us, probably); you’ll find much cheaper products that use it, but this is an uncommonly good quality version of it. Successfully removing over 95% of chlorine, 85% of lead, and 84% of chloroform are impressive numbers. Far too many filters boast of removing high amounts of contaminants, but when you actually check the numbers, it’s much lower than you thought, but the Water2 Pod 2.0 has independent lab results that back up their claims. If you get the version of the Pod 2.0 with the Fluoride filter, then it’s even better. Lab-tested results of 98.4% Fluoride removal are some of the best we’ve ever seen in a commercially available product.

Reduced chlorine taste and smell
It’s one of the major selling points of the Water2 Pod 2.0, and it delivers. We’ve tested a plethora of water filters over the years, and sometimes even a filter that has superb test results for removing, say, 90% plus of chlorine and yet still, somehow, there’s been still a hint of a smell or taste of chlorine in the water. That’s not the case here. If you’ve had to deal with that nasty smell or taste to your water, this is a filter that can genuinely get it out of your water.

The biggest taste improvement in a water filter
This is a very subjective result, but it gets to the point where if something is widely experienced in those who’ve tasted water after the Pod 2.0’s filtering, then it becomes almost an objective fact. Our analysis certainly backed up the online marketplace reviews that gush about how much better their water tastes now.

A rare level of high consistency of positive user feedback across the board
In our game – that is, water filtering products and water softeners – it’s quite common to get user feedback that varies extremely widely. It’ll verge from someone who has had the most fantastic, life-changing results to someone who says they couldn’t even get it fitted properly, or it worked at first but then the filtering performance declined in the following months. When we gathered our feedback from distributors of this filter, the feeback was very broadly excellent, and the cases of fitting problems (which are inevitable, at least to some extent), or declining reults, were few and far between.

Cons and why the Midi HE may not fit your needs:

It’s pricey
It’s quite a lot of money to pay for a water filter, an investment in your health. You can get a decent quality under-sink water filter for half this price. But remember, that this filter will last for a whole year, whereas the vast majority of other products require monthly or bi-monthly replacement of filters. The cost of that will add up to perhaps as much. And it’s still a lot cheaper than a reverse osmosis system.

Some sink piping types will require longer installation
As we mentioned earlier, installation issues with the Pod 2.0 are rare. But if you have copper pipes and certain other types of under-sink pipe arrangement, it could be the work of a few hours to install it, rather than the, say, 10-20 minutes that most people will get it done within.

Where to see it?

Bear Grylls Water2 Pod 2.0 Review Summary

Hopefully, this Water2 Pod 2.0 review was informative if you’re considering it.

Bear Grylls liked it so much he got involved and helped develop this second version of Water2’s under sink filter.

What did we think?

We were impressed with the filtering performance, and significant improvement in taste. While taste is a subjective thing, we’ve rarely seen a filter have such strong consumer feedback for this aspect.

What was not so good?

Well, it’s a lot of money to pay for a filter, no question. And the odd person will need to spend a few hours with installation, instead of a few minutes.
